During a regular session of the National Assembly (AN), the president of the Legislative Branch, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, presented statements related to the situation of Venezuelan children kidnapped in the United States and separated from their families.
Rodríguez called for national conscience by pointing out the importance of defending the right of Venezuelan children to be reunited with their parents. “When you kiss your son, assume that you have to fight to get the children back to Venezuela because they are ours,” he said during his speech.
The president of the AN warned about the consequences that family separation can have on the psychological development of minors. He stated that, at an early age, children lack the ability to understand the environment around them, which represents a risk to their personal growth.
He also denounced what he described as an exclusionary vision present in some countries, which, as he said, act under criteria of racial discrimination. He noted that such a vision represents a threat to the harmonious development of children.
Rodríguez presented the case of a Venezuelan minor, Gloriannis, separated from her mother at five months of age. He mentioned that at this stage of growth, human beings recognize only two forms of interaction: affection and threat.
Finally, he reiterated that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will continue to work for the repatriation of minors and maintained that the country has maintained a supportive stance in the face of these situations.
