Rafael María Baralt: Integration of struggle and poetry at the service of the Fatherland (+seeding)

On January 4, 1860, Rafael María Baralt, a prominent hero of the Fatherland, a witness to the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo, died, poet and historian.
Baralt was an officer in the General Staff of General Santiago Mariño and an artillery captain in the Reform Revolution of 1835.
In that same year, he began his career as a historian and resulted in three important volumes: Summary of the ancient and modern history of Venezuela, a work that was published in Paris in 1841, co-authored with Ramón Díaz Martínez.
He held a position in the Ministry of War during the administration of José María Vargas.
He was named Individual by Number of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1853 for his research on the language and became the first Spanish-American to occupy a place in this instance.
This important philologist, historian, journalist and poet of the 19th century was born in Maracaibo, Zulia state, on July 3, 1810.
