The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, warned this Monday of the negative impact of the tariffs imposed by the Government of the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, against some countries, and therefore urged action to strengthen production in Latin America.

During his participation in the XII Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Prime Ministers of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Gonsalves noted that “this is not the first time in history that capitalism has expressed its contradictions through nationalist factions.”

He warned that there are currently a large number of nationalists and populists “who express abundantly”, stressing that “it will not be easy for us in the developing world to deal with the effects of the contradictions of the nationalist factions of this monopoly capitalism”.

“Tariffs are going to translate into an increase in the price of the products and services we consume, which we import from these countries, and this will make the situation even more difficult for our people. There will be greater pressure on currencies. It is even possible that we will see, among the effects, how greater instability will be generated in the periphery of the global capitalist framework,” he said.
