The main spokesperson of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, Jorge Rodríguez, confirmed this Saturday that Venezuelan fishermen are worthy men and women who are willing to defend the sovereignty and peace of the Homeland against the aggressions of North American imperialism.

“Fishermen and women fishermen, together with the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, from the civic-military-police expression, are the true vigilantes of the seas of Venezuela (...) they are worthy men and women who will defend our peace, our independence and sovereignty even with our own lives,” he said from the state of La Guaira during the formation of the Fishermen's Sectorial Councils for Sovereignty and Peace .

He also highlighted the great deployment in perfect cohesion of the 1,540 Fishermen's Councils from all over the country. “They came together (...) to say that we are people of peace (...) it is one of the most beautiful manifestations, but also of firmness,” he said.

He condemned the fact that imperialism directly attacks this sector during its daily daily work. At the same time, he described the retention of the tuna boat by the United States in Caribbean waters as inconceivable.

“In addition to making a fool of himself, it sets a very dangerous precedent for the work of our fishermen and women. It also feels the condition of disrespect for international laws, maritime law and the right to peace, sovereignty, independence and life,” he criticized.
