At least 27 carriers were sanctioned in the state of La Guaira during Operation Safe Holy Week 2025, for charging excessive fares to passengers, according to municipal authorities.

As reported by the newspaper Última Noticias, the fines included the return of money to users and the suspension of five days on interurban routes, after charges of up to 3 dollars were detected on trips to resorts such as Naiguatá and Caraballeda, where the regulated fare ranges from 100 to 120 bolivars.

Xavier Moreno, Secretary of Government of the Mayor's Office of the Vargas municipality, explained that, of 1,380 verified units, 95% complied with the regulations, but pressure will be maintained against the 5% who committed irregularities. “We have acted decisively to protect users, especially on tourist routes,” he said.

The audits, which will last until this Sunday, prioritize respect for the fair rate and mandatory exemption for older adults. Liliana Rivas, president of the Bolivarian Municipal Council, stressed that the measure is part of a municipal ordinance to guarantee passenger rights.

The operations are concentrated in Naiguatá, Maiquetía and Catia La Mar, with a view to supervising 5,000 units. Moreno took the opportunity to invite tourism, highlighting beaches and security in the region. “We have a lot of coordination between municipal, regional and national institutions to guarantee order, security and quality of services in our entity,” he said.

Finally, authorities urged to report irregularities and recalled that the official rates established by the Ministry of Transport must be respected.
