Last Thursday, July 10, the Science Museum inaugurated in its spaces the room “Urumaco: Wealth in a Desert”, which highlights the paleontological importance of the Falconian region, known for housing the highest concentration of prehistoric fossils in Venezuela.

In this regard, during the opening ceremony, the president of the National Museums Foundation (FMN), Mary Pemjean, expressed her pleasure at opening the doors of this room that exposes the vast cultural wealth of Venezuela.

“I am very happy to know that these great treasures that we keep in museum vaults can be exhibited to the Venezuelan people. Not everyone can say that they have these pieces in their vaults, which is why we must take care of our heritage (...) These pieces are unique and priceless and, although paleontology is not a career that is studied in Venezuela, we are proud that our countrymen come to their homeland to study all the wonders we have in our country,” he said.

For his part, the executive director of the Science Museum, Christian Gámez, highlighted the importance of the exhibition by exhibiting unique pieces that reflect the country's wealth. At the same time, he noted that the exhibition seeks to awaken the public's curiosity, encouraging them to deepen their study of paleontology.

“Although we are living in a world with a lot of technology, we have realized that the scientific field is highly valued (...) in the case of paleontology, Falcón is a decisive area, since it is the region with the largest amount of fossil records in the country, so we are happy to be able to open this room to the entire Venezuelan people,” he said.

For this reason, the Science Museum extends a cordial invitation to all citizens to visit this exhibition, which reliably demonstrates the diversity of species that once existed in the Urumaco region.
