The second round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, organized under the mediation of Türkiye in Istanbul, has ended.
This was announced by Oncu Keceli, a spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, who asserted that the meeting “did not end in a negative way” and they agreed to meet again in the future to continue the talks.
He also indicated that representatives of both parties will speak to the press shortly to provide more details.
For his part, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensk I, announced that a new prisoner exchange with Russia is being prepared, RDN press reports.
“Documents were exchanged through the mediation of the Turkish side, and we prepared a new release of prisoners of war,” Zelenski said.
The Ukrainian president insisted on the need for additional tougher sanctions against Russian energy exports and in particular against the sale of crude oil by Moscow if these new contacts in Türkiye mediated by the Ankara Government do not produce progress towards a negotiated end to the war.
For its part, Russia rejected an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine in the peace negotiations held between the two in Istanbul, according to Kiev negotiator Sergi and Kyslytsya.
