This Saturday, thousands of workers at Samsung Electronics, the world's largest chip maker and South Korea's largest company, begin a general strike.

Workers at South Korean tech giant Samsung began a three-day general strike on Monday to demand wages and benefits,

Initially planned as a three-day action, the strike was extended indefinitely after management refused to enter into talks with the workers.

So far, more than 6,540 members of the Samsung Electronics National Union (NSEU), the largest union in Samsung Electronics, have participated in the strike.

The union represents about 30,000 workers, or 24 percent of all Samsung employees.

The union's demands include a 5.6% increase in the basic wage for all members, a guaranteed day off on the day the union was founded, and compensation for economic losses due to the strike.
