This Wednesday, farmers and ranchers from Spain protested in Madrid against the cuts proposed in the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the trade agreement reached by the European Union with the Mercosur countries, which was currently paralyzed by a judicial process.
The Madrid government delegation reported that five columns of demonstrators arrived in the Spanish capital, with more than 1,500 farmers and 367 tractors coming from Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, the north and the Levant.
The organizations denounce that the field has been under great pressure for years, with increasingly high production costs, especially since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
Another reason for their demands is the lack of generational replacement due to the reduction in farm profitability.
The state coordinator of Unions Union, Luis Cortés, attacked the CAP cut, which amounts to between 22% and 28%, and has warned that the problem is not only the reduction, but the lack of budgetary guarantees.
“If you sign a trade agreement that I am not competitive, you reduce my aid and increase my environmental commitments, what I understand is that you want the primary sector of the European Union to disappear,” said Cortés.
