This Thursday, the third day of the doctors' strike takes place in Spain, increasing pressure on the Ministry of Health, amid growing demands for a labor statute that recognizes the particular conditions of the profession.
Health professionals reject the Framework Statute (EM), which they consider insufficient to address their responsibilities and schedules.
According to the correspondent Álvaro Fragua to Telesur, “the minister of the sector Mónica García reached an agreement with the majority unions. But doctors are rejecting the Framework Statute.”
The doctors insist that negotiations be opened between the Ministry of Health and the medical unions to establish their own regulatory framework.
Doctors argue that their workdays exceed 40 and 45 hours a week, with mandatory 24-hour guards, which affects the quality of care. “If doctors aren't cared for, doctors can't take care of patients,” they said during the protests.
Spaniards stress that their salaries are lower than those of other European countries, despite having greater responsibilities within the health system.
