Dozens of citizen initiatives demanding the immediate release of the Venezuelan head of state, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and the first lady of the Republic, deputy Cilia Flores, took place last Tuesday in Spain, marking the first month of the kidnapping of the Venezuelan presidential couple, which occurred during the aggression of the United States, against Caracas and other cities in the South American country.

One of these mobilizations took place at Puerta del Sol in Madrid, where political and social organizations gathered within the framework of the international campaign “We want them back”, which calls for the unconditional release of Maduro and Flores, who were illegally held in New York and, in turn, denounces the militarist drift of the United States Government and its continuous threats and intimidation against other peoples of the world, such as the cases of Colombia, Cuba and Iran, among others.

The rally was attended, among other personalities, by the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Spain, Deputy Enrique Santiago; former MEP Willy Meyer and Ambassador Gladys Gutiérrez Alvarado, as well as representatives of political parties and social movements in solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution, such as Human Colombia, Sovereign Argentina, the Anti-Fascist International and the Platform for Solidarity with Venezuela.

Santiago denounced the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president and his wife, while joining the demands of their full release, expressing -in addition- his solidarity with the peoples of the world who “are currently being harassed by the American Government,” he said, urging all those in attendance to denounce imperial abuses.

“We don't want, we don't feel like it, to be a North American colony,” the demonstrators chanted in the central square of Madrid, while carrying a banner in which Maduro and Flores merge in an embrace, along with the labels #FreeMaduro and #FreeCilia.

Manifest solidarity

A few meters from that rally, in the combative neighborhood of Lavapiés, the round table entitled “War, a kidnapped debate” was taking place at the Teatro del Barrio in Madrid, organized by the Internationalist Anti-Imperialist Front (FAI).

The activity was attended by prominent panelists such as Alberto Cruz, Eduardo Hernández, Joaquín Arranz and José María Goday, under the moderation of Ángeles Diez, highlighting the impact of military aggression against Venezuela on the international geopolitical board.

Other activities were carried out simultaneously in cities such as Bilbao, where in Plaza Venezuela -in the immediate vicinity of the Venezuelan consulate- a new demonstration of the Basque people gathered, demanding the release of the presidential couple and denouncing the violations of international regulations committed during the armed aggression.
