From Plaza La Candelaria, in Caracas, the vigil begins on the occasion of the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles.

The beginning of the special vigil was led by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, who read an excerpt from the letter sent by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro to Pope Francis, on June 6, 2015, in the context of the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández.

He stressed that in that letter the head of state asked Pope Francis to intercede for the canonization of the Doctor of the Poor, giving an account of his career as a doctor for the poor to help them heal and his social and Christian work.

He also reported that this Saturday, the 18th, President Maduro delivered more than 20 works to Venezuela, in honor of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández.

Rodríguez summarized the Christian trajectory of the Creole saints and thanked, on behalf of the Venezuelan government and people, the pope, for recognizing these two Venezuelans who will join the Latin American saints.

He specified that at 4:00 in the morning (Venezuelan time) this Sunday, October 19, the solemn mass will be held from the Vatican for the canonization; one of the first Venezuelan saints.

During the mass, Pope Leo XIV, with the traditional Latin formula, will ask that they be inscribed in the Book of Saints and that their veneration can begin.

At that same time, the country will retouch another bells with the intonation of the National Anthem of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In the same way, on Sunday the 19th, four thanksgiving masses will be held at 8:30am., 10:00am., 12 M and 5:00pm.

The sacristan of the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria church, Carlos Fernández, assured that from that time onward “there will come an expected moment throughout Venezuela, where there will be a display of fireworks with the retouching of bells”.

Rodríguez, moved to the La Pastora Church, where he also participated in the beginning of the vigil on the occasion of the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles.
