The high-level week of the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) takes place in New York this Tuesday. The world's most important diplomatic forum this year takes place in a context of growing international tensions, the U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean Sea and the genocide in Gaza.

Both issues at the center of the scene will feature the diplomatic impetus towards the recognition of the State of Palestine of several Western states as an immediate precedent and the cessation of the imperial threat in the Caribbean.

The agenda for this first day will feature the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who will maintain the historic tradition of being the first head of state to address the plenary.

His speech will be closely followed as a thermometer of the tone that will predominate in this edition, which the Secretary General, António Guterres, has already described as critical due to the deterioration of global conditions and the continuous attacks on international law.

Among the interventions, the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, who returns to the UN stand after five years, stood out in particular. Interventions are also planned by the leaders of South Africa, Uruguay, Mexico and Türkiye, among others.
