The governor of the state of Zulia, Luis Caldera, reaffirmed the commitment of the fishing people to the defense of the Homeland, evoking the legacy of Pedro Lucas Urribarri, Manrique, Domitila Flores, Ana María Campos and the Cacique Origales.

During an event held on the shores of Lake Maracaibo, Caldera affirmed that the Zulian people maintain their right to exist as a nation, to be present in the seas, lakes and rivers, to fish and to preserve life while respecting biodiversity and protecting sovereignty.

“We ratify our decision: we are going to defend our right to exist as a nation, to be in all seas, in all lakes, in all rivers, to fish in defense of our sovereignty, as Commander Hugo Chávez taught us and as President Nicolás Maduro leads today. From Zulia, from these waters of Lake Maracaibo, we say to the world: we will defend sovereignty. Long live Venezuela,” he said.

For her part, a representative of the fishing industry reaffirmed the commitment of seafarers to the defense of the homeland.

“We are a people free of all shores. The united People will never be defeated. Get out of Latin America's gringo,” he said.
