Torrential rains affect housing infrastructure and cause human losses in Bolivia

The intense rains that have hit Bolivia in recent weeks have left a report of more than 282 thousand affected families and 44 people dead.

Civil Defense teams carry out overflights over the Piraí, Tapacarí, Ichilo and Grande rivers, in the department of Santa Cruz, to evaluate flow growth and define preventive measures.

The departments of Chuquisaca and La Paz were declared in emergency, while Beni is in the process of declaring. The impact of these natural disasters has been significant, with a total of 66 municipalities declared in disaster and 11 in municipal emergency.

The national government responded quickly to the emergency, assisting 8,597 families in 25 municipalities with humanitarian aid exceeding BS 2.8 million. In addition, significant resources have been mobilized for infrastructure rehabilitation and emergency care in departments such as La Paz, El Chaco, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz, Telesur said on its website.

To date, 44 people have died and 10 have disappeared, due to floods and landslides. In addition, 473 homes completely destroyed for a total of three thousand 280 affected communities.

Three thousand 581 soldiers have been mobilized from 76 units and carrying out 61 operations, of which 24 were aircraft of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.
