The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) approved last Wednesday, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution demanding from Israel an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The votes in the 193-nation world body were 158 to 9, with 13 abstentions to demand “an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza”.

The votes culminated two days of speeches calling for an end to the Zionist regime's 14-month war against the Palestinian population of Gaza.

The text also requires “the immediate access of the civilian population of the Gaza Strip to basic services and humanitarian assistance essential for their survival.

“It rejects any attempt to starve the Palestinians, and also demands that the full, rapid, safe and unimpeded entry of humanitarian assistance on a large scale and under the coordination of the United Nations be facilitated into the Gaza Strip,” reads the resolution.
