The well-known “border czar” appointed by the
President of the United States, Tom Homan, threatened to arrest the governor
of California, Gavin Newsom, and the mayor of the city, Karen Bass, who
expressed their opposition to the deployment of 2,000 National
Guard personnel to silence the protests in Los Angeles.
Homan, who defended President Donald Trump's order, specified
that if local officials exceed their powers they could face
arrests, adding that they will continue to enforce the
Administration's immigration policy every day in Los Angeles, Telesur reports.
“I don't care if they like it or not,” he said, stating that around
150 undocumented immigrants had been arrested in recent days in
the ICE raids that ignited the protests.
On this day, the governor of California expressed his total
opposition to Trump's decision, and asserted that the tycoon does not intend to
satisfy an unmet need, but rather to generate a crisis in the state.
For her part, Mayor Karen Bass pointed out that “deploying federal
troops after these raids is a chaotic escalation,” and said that
families feel a very real fear after the order and the subsequent deployment.
During the day of protests, they denounced authoritarianism and obscurantism in the
behavior of migratory agents. In addition, the repressive response proposed by the
tycoon Trump, set off alarm bells regarding possible irregularities in the
application of the immigration law that Homan defends with the sword and cover.
