USAID allocated more than 100,000 dollars to finance a TV program to benefit Zelenski

The United States (US) Agency for International Development (USAID) allocated more than 100,000 dollars to finance a television program that could have helped Vladimir Zelenski win the 2019 presidential elections in Ukraine.

This is the program Our Money (Nashi Groshi, in Ukrainian), which a few years ago was one of the most popular programs in the country, according to Sputnik.

According to information released by the media, he regularly broadcast material that damaged the reputation of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and supported Zelensky's electoral rhetoric.

USAID, one of the program's key themes, was issued in February 2019, but was based on materials published as early as October 2017, when the program was fully funded by the agency.

Sputnik details that the investigation into cases of alleged corruption in the Ukrainian defense sector involving people close to Poroshenko.

It was alleged that its partners would have benefited from inflated prices of military supplies, causing great public discontent.

TOM-14, the show's producer, received $22,525 from the U.S. agency between July 15 and September 30, 2016 to produce 11 episodes.

USAID provided an additional $87,664 between February 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018, allowing 16 episodes to be shot. The agency allocated $110,189 to produce 27 episodes between 2016 and 2018.
