The Deputy Minister for Africa of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yuri Pimentel, held a working meeting this Tuesday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Lejone Mpotjoane, at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Maseru.
The purpose of the meeting was to deepen the bonds of friendship and explore possible areas of binational collaboration.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Pimentel conveyed President Nicolás Maduro Moros's fraternal greetings to His Majesty King Letsie III; Prime Minister Samuel Matekane and the People of Lesotho, stressing the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation. “We ratify our commitment to multilateralism and the construction of a more balanced world,” said the Venezuelan representative.
Both parties analyzed opportunities for collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture and food security, energy and sustainable development, tourism and cultural exchange, education and technical training, and mining.
In addition, it was agreed to establish a monitoring mechanism to advance concrete projects that benefit both populations.
Venezuela and Lesotho established diplomatic relations on June 20, 1983. This meeting marks a new impetus in their strategic relationship. The Kingdom of Lesotho, a constitutional monarchy nestled in South Africa, has faced recent economic challenges, including tariff measures imposed by the United States that affect its exports.
In this regard, Deputy Minister Pimentel reiterated Venezuela's rejection of unilateral sanctions and expressed support for Lesotho's efforts to diversify its international alliances.
The delegations agreed to hold working meetings in the coming months, in order to advance potential cooperation projects, in line with the sustainable development goals and the 2030 Agenda.
