The Deputy Minister of Identity and Cultural Diversity of Venezuela, Ignacio Barreto, and the general director of Living Cultures of Mexico, Diego Prieto, held a meeting that allowed the establishment of initial agreements on technical cooperation and the exchange of experiences in the preparation of files for UNESCO heritage conventions.

“The Mexican government has extensive experience in declaring World Heritage and Tangible Heritage, while Venezuela has made significant progress in preparing Intangible Heritage files. This complementarity allows us to propose future collaborations for the benefit of both countries,” said Barreto.

Among the topics addressed, there was also discussion about the visit of the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, to Mexico City on October 15, where he will accompany the presentation of the Juan José Landaeta Symphony Orchestra.

In addition, both delegations exchanged perspectives on cultural policies aimed at indigenous peoples in their respective countries, analyzing the institutionality that supports them.

“Mexico has an institute dedicated to this topic, while in Venezuela there is a ministry that deals with indigenous issues. These structures can be a starting point for future alliances,” he added.

This meeting was held within the framework of the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development Mondiacult 2025, which is being held in Barcelona, Spain, in which Venezuela participates to strengthen cultural policies and international cooperation for the sustainable development of peoples.
