“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with
Alva Baptiste, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade,
Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs of Saint Lucia, to strengthen our strong diplomatic
alliance,” the Minister of Popular Power for
Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported this Friday through his Telegram channel.
He indicated that, at the meeting held in New York, they
also reviewed progress in cooperation projects in key areas such as
education, tourism, food sovereignty and fishing, “thus consolidating our joint
commitment to development and regional integration.”
Both ministers are speaking at the high-level week of the
80th session of the General Assembly of the
United Nations (UN).
Venezuela established diplomatic relations with Saint Lucia
on September 14, 1979, six months after the island achieved
independence from the United Kingdom. On the occasion of the recent celebration of the
46th anniversary of diplomatic ties, a
discussion took place in the island nation with the participation of sectors of culture, politics, social
organizations and friends of the Venezuelan cause, who offered
their unrestricted support to the South American nation in the face
of the threats that the Donald Trump administration implements in Caribbean waters.
Caracas and Castries strengthen their relations through their shared membership in the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), among other mechanisms .
