In the framework of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT) 2025, held in Barcelona, Spain, the Venezuelan Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, and his counterpart from Vietnam, Nguyen Van Hung, held a bilateral meeting to promote cultural cooperation and reaffirm their ties of solidarity.
“I have reiterated to the Vietnamese minister Venezuela's
admiration for the Homeland of Ho Chi Minh, whose example inspires us
in today's struggles,” Villegas said through his Telegram channel.
The head of Venezuelan Culture proposed
strengthening the cooperation of both countries in the publishing field by publishing Vietnamese books in Venezuela and Venezuelan authors in
Vietnam, encouraging literary exchange.
He also raised the idea of bringing to the big
screen the life of Nguyen Van Troi, the young Vietnamese revolutionary
executed in 1964 by the Saigon regime and turned into a global symbol of resistance.
“We have a duty, which is to make a film about Van Troi so
that new generations know his story,” he said.
For his part,
Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Nguyen Van Hung, said that this approach “will strengthen the
unity of our peoples.”
In addition,
he emphasized that both countries have “historically had the same enemies” and
reaffirmed support for Venezuela, stating that Vietnam supports its legitimate
defense and that his country belongs to the Group of Friends of the United Nations Charter.
In terms of cooperation, the Vietnamese minister confirmed the mutual interest in the publishing sector. “We are considering publishing books from both countries. We will send books in Spanish,” he said and extended an invitation to Venezuela to participate in future cultural or tourism events in Vietnam.
