The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically condemns the recent renewal of the so-called “national emergency” by the United States Government, which classifies the country as an unusual and extraordinary threat

In a statement published by the People's Power Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, on his telegram channel, eleven years after the signing of the original decree, Venezuela reiterates that the qualification of “unusual and extraordinary threat” is unusual and urges the United States government to assume a constructive and respectful role in the conduct of its international relations.

The following is the full text of the press release:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the renewal of the so-called “national emergency” with respect to our country, extended on February 18, 2026 by the Government of the United States, following Executive Order 13692, signed on March 8, 2015 by then-President Barack Hussein Obama.

From the outset, this instrument was conceived without objective basis or real justification, based on arguments far from truth and international law, unusually describing Venezuela as an “unusual and extraordinary threat”. Eleven years later, reality confirms what the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has consistently maintained: our country represents no threat to the people or to the government of the United States, or to any nation in the world.

The persistence of this measure, born under political premises that do not correspond to reality, only contributes to maintaining confrontational narratives that do not reflect the true historical, cultural and human ties that must prevail between the Venezuelan and the American people.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the Government of the United States to assume a constructive and respectful role in the conduct of its international relations, to abandon unilateral approaches and to move towards a phase of mutual respect, frank dialogue based on sovereignty, non-interference and the shared benefit of our nations.
