The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, on behalf of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, celebrated the National Day of Belarus this Thursday and reaffirmed the friendship between the two nations.

“The Bolivarian Government joins the celebration this July 3rd of the National Day of Belarus, a date that honors the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi occupation in 1944, marking the beginning of its journey towards independence and sovereignty. Venezuela reaffirms its friendship with the people of Belarus and its joint commitment to peace,” said the Foreign Minister on his Telegram channel.

Caracas officially recognized the independence of Belarus on January 11, 1992. Later, in December 2006, the Bolivarian Government inaugurated its embassy in this nation and in October 2007, this European country did the same in Venezuelan territory.

Every July 3rd, Belarus celebrates its National Day in a big way, also known as Independence Day, since it was on this date in 1944 that the city of Minsk was liberated by the Red Army from Nazi occupation during the Second World War (1939-1945) or Patriotic War, as it was called in the Soviet Union.
