La Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through a statement, celebrates the canonization of its first saints, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles, and reaffirms its vocation for peace.
La missive recognizes the work of Pope Francis, whom I thank for authorizing this historic event in my country.
The following is the full text of the statement:
La Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrates with deep joy the canonization of the first Venezuelan saints, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles, a spiritual and historical event that honors the living faith of our people and strengthens the soul of the Fatherland.
José Gregorio Hernández, the doctor of the poor, and Mother Carmen Rendiles, a tireless servant of the Gospel, embody the noblest virtues of our identity: humility, work, compassion and love for others. His life is testimony to the fact that human greatness is born of service, kindness and caring commitment.
El people and the Government of Venezuela express deep gratitude to His Holiness Pope Francis, who with pastoral wisdom promoted the causes of holiness of these two exemplary Venezuelans, recognizing in them the simple faith and spiritual strength of the humble peoples of Our America.
Al At the same time, we express our gratitude to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, under whose pontificate this canonization was formalized, a gesture that further strengthens fraternal ties between Venezuela and the universal Catholic Church. We value your message of reconciliation, humanity and encounter between nations.
Este event finds us united as a Nation, reaffirming that Venezuela is a profoundly believing people, with authentic Christian values and a spirit of solidarity; a people that has been able to defend peace in the midst of challenges and difficulties, with dignity, hope and unwavering faith. Nothing has been able or can break our vocation for peace, justice and life.
Inspirados For these new saints, Venezuela renews its commitment to continue building a society based on respect, brotherhood and national unity, guided by the love and hope that spring from the Gospel and from the spiritual greatness of our people.
