In
order to commemorate the 206 years of the Battle of Boyacá, Venezuela issued an official statement
to congratulate the people of Colombia and their Government.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela fraternally congratulates the brotherly people of Colombia and their Government, as this August 7 marks a new anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá, one of the most transcendental feats in our common history.
In 1819, in the Boyacá camps, the strategic and moral genius of El Libertador Simón Bolívar led the Liberation Army to a decisive victory against colonial rule. That triumph marked the beginning of freedom in New Granada and laid the foundations of Gran Colombia as a project of unity, justice and shared sovereignty.
Boyacá demonstrated the transformative power of peoples who stand up for a higher ideal . The union of Venezuelans, New Grenadians and Ecuadorians under the banner of Bolivar reaffirmed that only together can we forge a truly free America.
Today, 206 years old, Venezuela honors the heroes and heroines of that glorious feat and ratifies the validity of the Bolivarian ideal. Faced with new threats, Boyacá reminds us that freedom and unity are permanent tasks.
Gran Colombia remains a strategic vision that guides the path of unity
of our peoples, united by history, challenges and the
shared destiny of freedom.
