The Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs
of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela informs the country and the
international community that, as of today, a Note Verbal was delivered to the Government of the
Cooperative Republic of Guyana expressing the strongest
protest against the start of operations of the floating production,
storage and unloading vessel One Guyana, in the Stabroek Block , by the
transnational company ExxonMobil, in partnership with the Guyanese authorities.
Venezuela reiterates that these operations are carried out in a maritime
area pending delimitation between the two States, which
makes them illegal under international law, violating the principle
of refraining from carrying out acts that alter the situation.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
warns ExxonMobil and any other company that intends to participate in exploration or exploitation
activities in these waters that such actions
may have political and legal consequences.
Venezuela reserves the right to exercise all the rights that
correspond to it, making use of all the resources and capacities granted
to it by international law for the defense of its sovereignty and
territorial integrity.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its call to the
Government of Guyana to immediately cease these operations and to resume the
path of direct dialogue in order to preserve peace and stability in the entire Caribbean region.
