The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, denounced this Tuesday the increase in global spending on weapons and the development of destructive war technologies, during his speech at the Conference on Disarmament, which was held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Through his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister noted that in his speech he advocated the vindication of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), “especially in the context of its 80th anniversary in 2025”, and stressed that “an international order based on the rules of a few is unsustainable”.

He stated that “the alarming increase in global spending on weapons and the race to develop destructive war technologies (...) represents a serious setback in compliance with international treaties such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. This situation accentuates the asymmetries between States that have and do not have nuclear weapons,” he criticized.

The head of Bolivarian Peace Diplomacy said that “this scenario could facilitate the consolidation of fascist and neo-Nazi political forces in Europe, increasing uncertainty about future armed conflicts, especially those of a nuclear nature.”
