The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela extends its fraternal greetings to the people of the United States of America, on the occasion of the commemoration of their National Day, today, July 4.
On this historic date, which evokes the Declaration of Independence of 1776, we want to recognize the republican, anti-colonial and democratic values that inspired that foundational feat: resistance to imperial domination, the right of peoples to self-govern and the aspiration of a society based on freedom, justice and equality. It is these principles that unite peoples who fight against all forms of oppression.
From Venezuela, a Bolivarian land, also marked by independence struggles and the dream of a free humanity, we express our sincerest desire that the American people, with their profound diversity, creativity and social energy, can rediscover those original values, and that they will be able to move towards a horizon of peace, shared well-being, respect for life and positive contribution to the balance of the world. A people as necessary as the American people deserve to walk towards internal harmony and towards a supportive relationship with the peoples of the planet.
Finally, we urge all institutions of the U.S. state to immediately cease hate campaigns, stigmatization and persecution against Venezuelan citizens in that country. Many of them, with effort and dignity, contribute daily to the construction of their society. We demand respect for their human rights, the cessation of practices of family separation, and that their right to return voluntarily and in an orderly manner to their homeland be guaranteed, if they so choose. Venezuela will always defend the dignity of its people, wherever they are.
