Venezuela honors Sam Nujoma, Founding Father of Namibia

In an emotional event held this Thursday in Windhoek, the Deputy Minister for Africa of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yuri Pimentel, accompanied by the Venezuelan ambassador, Magaly Henríquez, on behalf of the people and the Bolivarian Government, paid tribute to the Founding Father and First President of the Republic of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, who passed to immortality on February 8.
The ceremony, established by the Organization of the People of Southwest Africa (SWAPO), was attended by leaders of organizations and political movements of Mother Africa, who gathered to pay their respects to a great humanist, a symbol of the tireless struggle against colonialism and the Apartheid regime, with an enormous contribution to the pan-Africanist organization.
Likewise, Deputy Minister Pimentel highlighted the important role that Nujoma played as a visionary in consolidating the union of the peoples of Africa, describing him as “a soldier of humanity” and affirming that “Nujoma is also a son of Latin America”.
The diplomat reaffirmed the unbreakable ties of brotherhood and anti-imperialist struggle that unite Venezuela and Namibia.
The event was led by the Vice President and President-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah; the Secretary General of SWAPO, Sophia Shaningwa, and was attended by leaders of social movements and political organizations from South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Palestine, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, China, Cuba and Russia, among other countries.
