Venezuela paid tribute to the 156th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi

The Sectorial Vice President of Communication and Culture, Freddy Ñáñez, together with Indian authorities, led the tribute that was made from the Caricuao parish, in Caracas, on the occasion of the celebration of the 156th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth and the Day of Non-Violence.

During the activity, he highlighted that Gandhi was a key figure in India's independence, and he also stressed that he was the one who promoted and promoted non-violence and peaceful resistance.

He also pointed out that the stay in South Africa was key for this pacifist leader to dedicate his life to fighting injustices.

At the same time, he recalled that he founded the Congress Party and began the fight against racism and discrimination suffered by the Indian population.

In the same way, he emphasized that “the idea of an interconnected universe, mediation as a path of knowledge, the ethics of detachment, the vision of nature as something sacred, everything that the West would discover centuries later, was born in India”.

“In paying homage to Gandhi, we must also pay homage to that ancient land that gave birth to a model of civilization centered on transcendental wisdom,” he said.
