The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, thanked the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), which expressed solidarity with the South American nation in the face of the recent unilateral coercive measures, misnamed “sanctions”, imposed by the United States (USA) against the country.
“On behalf of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, we express our sincere gratitude for the message of solidarity of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations. We especially value your call to repeal the more than 947 measures that seriously affect the well-being of our people,” Gil said through his Telegram channel.
The Diplomat shared a statement issued by the Group of Friends on the situation in Venezuela, which reiterates the rejection of the imposition of unilateral coercive measures directed against the nation. They consider that the measures imposed by the US Government affect both the Venezuelan State and its people.
The document highlights that these criminal actions are contrary to international law and the global democratic order, and that unilateral threats further destabilize Venezuelan democratic institutions, exacerbating the domestic political crisis.
The Group of Friends also expressed concern about the adverse effects of these measures on the human rights and well-being of the Venezuelan people. “The unilateral and indiscriminate imposition of these measures negatively affects the entire population, but it especially impacts women and children.”
The members of the group called on the international community to take urgent measures to alleviate the situation and respect the principles of international law.
