The men's under-23 Softball
National Team won the bronze medal in the
Pan-American Championship of the discipline that was played at the Arnaldo Bautista
Gómez stadium in Santa Rosa in La Pampa, Argentina.
Upon climbing to the third
step of the podium, Venezuela won one of the four places in the
World Cup category, which will be held next year in Sincelejo, Colombia.
The ninth
led by manager Germán López finished the elimination round in third
place with a record of four wins and three losses after winning 12
races 0-0 against Peru, 5-2 Dominican Republic, 2-1 against Guatemala, 2-for-1 against Mexico and yielding to the United States (3-0), Argentina (1-0) and Canada (
5-1), respectively, according to the Ministry of Sports press.
The
final classification for the Pan-American medals was based on the standings,
because weather conditions prevented the final
matches from taking place and for third and fifth place.
For this reason,
Argentina and Mexico won the gold medal for championship conditions,
while Canada won silver and Venezuela won bronze.
Left fielder Alvi Pereira was the most outstanding in Venezuela, leaving a batting average of .368 with seven hits, one RBI and three scored, while pitcher Eduardo Juárez stood out from the mound with a record of four wins and three losses, with 15 hits allowed, six runs all dirty, eight walks awarded and three strikeouts handed out.
