Carmen Meléndez, representative of the Venezuelan delegation, met with Pope Leo XIV in an audience at the Vatican as part of the activities following the canonization of Saint Gregorio Hernández and Saint Carmen Rendiles.

During the meeting, Meléndez expressed the pride of the Venezuelan delegation for participating in this historic moment, highlighting the inspiration that Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles represent for the Venezuelan people.

“We ask for your protection for Venezuela and the world,” he said.

Meléndez explained that the activities in Rome began with a mass in honor of the new Venezuelan saints, celebrated this Monday in St. Peter's Basilica, presided over by Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The ceremony was attended by the Simon Bolivar National Choir and the Venezuelan National Children's Symphony Orchestra, an event that also paid tribute to the Virgin of Coromoto, patron saint of Venezuela.

The delegation offered a prayer for peace, justice, respect and love for others, in a new moment of spiritual encounter that reaffirms the commitment of the Venezuelan people to their faith.
