Venezuelan para-fencers Francia Jaimez and Numa Rojas won gold and bronze at the “William of Orange” Para Fencing Satellite Tournament in Paris.
Jaimez won the gold medal by beating France's Margot Fourmond 15-14.
The Venezuelan began her path to gold by defeating the representative of India, Pujaswini Nayak, 5-3. He then repeated the win with a solid 5-0 against Christelle Sangani from France.
In her third fight, she beat Colombia's Claudia Quiñones and Nancy Izquierdo 5-2, but then gave up 5-4 to France's Margot Fourmond, according to a press release from the Ministry of Sport.
Later, she advanced to the semifinals by bye, and there she once again beat Colombia's Quiñones 15-13.
For his part, Rojas advanced to the 8-by-bye table where he beat Colombian Yarli Castro 15-5, but in the semifinals he was dominated 15-4 by Russian Ruslan Zimnitski and thus won the bronze medal.
