Venezuelan fencing teams won medals in the Central American Championship in Guatemala and won two places in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The Venezuelan delegation won two gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals in the tournament, according to the Ministry of Sports press.
The Venezuelan Lizze Asis won the gold one after beating her Mexican counterpart, Selly Mendoza, 15-11. From the table of 32 where it surpassed the representatives of Costa Rica, Panama and Venezuela.
For their part, the women's foil team made up of Isis Giménez, Bárbara Manrique, Valentina Acosta and Génesis Contreras defeated their Mexican counterparts 45-43 in the final, with this result they qualified for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The team advanced to the board of 8 by bye and beat Cuba 45-41, then repeated victory in the semifinals against El Salvador 45-23.
On the other hand, Clarismar Farías won the bronze medal after falling 15-8 in the semifinals against his compatriot Asis, and shared third place with fellow Venezuelan Camila Chacón who gave up 15-12 to Mexico's Mendoza.
Meanwhile, José Félix Quintero won the silver medal by beating Brandon Romo from Mexico 15-12 in the semifinals and then giving up 15-10 in the final against Aztec Gibran Zea.
The men's sword team made up of Jesús Limardo, Grabiel Lugo, Edward Hernández and Giuseppe Astorino reached the table of 8 by bye and won 45-26 against Costa Rica, then they lost 45-36 against Mexico, in this way they won the fight for the bronze medal with 45-35 against Colombia and obtained the spot for the highest sporting event in Santo Domingo 2026.
