The Mirandino writer Juan Manuel Romero Ángel won the VIII National Biennial of Literature Cruz Salmerón Acosta, mention Children's Poetry under the Tenth genre, with his work “Tenth Michian Studies (for children who want to get their doctorate in old meows)”.
The jury, composed of María Elena Franco, Orlando Martínez and Rod Medina, declared the winner the work presented under the pseudonym Leopoldo Felini, which, once the plea was opened, turned out to be the author of Juan Manuel Romero Ángel.
The verdict praised the quality of the literary work and states that “the pattern of the tenth in this collection of poems generates an internal musicality that flows naturally and is easy to memorize, becoming an auditory game that stimulates children's orality”.
In addition, the jury indicated that “the genius of these texts lies in the capacity of a rigorous poetic form to embrace plain language, close images and a playful vision of everyday life”.
“By immersing ourselves in its octosyllables, we discover a renewed imaginary and an invitation to reinvent it; there emerge the talent and creativity that distinguish this wonderful poetic genre”, concluded the members of the jury.
The biennial, organized by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC) through the National Book Center (CENAL) and aimed at Venezuelan and foreign writers residing in the country, closed on September 30 with the participation of 27 decimists.
