On January 25, 1882, the writer and fervent defender of feminism Virginia Woolf was born, who is considered to be one of the outstanding figures of Anglo-Saxon modernism of the 20th century.
Her most famous works include the novels “Mrs. Dalloway” (1925), “To the Lighthouse” (1927), “Orlando: A Biography” (1928), “The Waves” (1931), her short essay “A Room of Her Own” (1929), and her famous sentence “A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is going to write fiction”.
Born in London, England, Woolf began writing professionally in 1905, initially for the “Times Literary Supplement”. This illustrious British writer suffered from bipolar disorder, a disease that worsened with the destruction of her home as a result of air attacks on her hometown by German Nazis.
On March 28, 1941, Virginia Woolf committed suicide, filling her pockets with stones and then jumping into the River Ouse and drowning.
