Some 100,000 young people, two for each commune, will be selected to study any of the 13 careers offered by the National University of Health Sciences Hugo Chávez (UCS) through the My Doctor, My Community program.
This was reported by the sectoral vice-president of Social and Territorial Socialism, Héctor Rodríguez, during a press conference where he reported that this month of June the meetings will begin in each council or communal circuit to explain the program and publicize the university.
According to a press release, in July the Community Councils will pre-select the two boys or girls to begin the technical evaluation phase, which will be carried out by the Barrio Adentro Mission and the Comprehensive Community Health Areas (ASIC).
In August, the administrative registration process begins, as well as the swearing in of those selected, who must commit to returning to the Commune, after graduating, to work in their communities. The commune is also committed to accompanying the academic process of each student.
Finally, in September, the first 50,000 students will begin the training process. First they will go to the 13,700 outpatient clinics where technical classes will begin and from there they will continue to advance to other educational levels of the house of studies.
Rodríguez explained that with the support of the Great Barrio Adentro Mission, the university offers 13 careers: Integrative Community Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Optometry, Integral Community Bioanalysis, Electromedicine and Biomedical Engineering, Comprehensive Community Nursing, Speechoaudiology, Histocytotechnology, Radioimaging, Occupational Therapy and Orthoprosthesis.
He clarified that more than two may be selected, depending on the number of members of the communes or communal councils and circuits. In addition, there will be no age limit for studying any of the 13 subjects.
