On April 19, 1810, in the city of Caracas, the brightness of freedom gave its first glimpses in the eyes of a people who, tired of imperial domination, would begin the greatest libertarian feat that humanity has ever known.
This glorious day, a group of young people decided to carry out the action of submitting to the People the mandate of the minion Vicente Emparan, who served as Captain General of the Captaincy General of Venezuela. For this reason, they subdued him and taking him to the balcony of today's headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in front of the Plaza Mayor, he was asked to ask if they wanted him as the highest leader of the Venezuelan territories, to which the people answered with a resounding “No” that echoed in the four cardinal points of this continent.
After this rejection, Emparan and after long discussions between those who were clamoring for the declaration of Independence and those who were striving to maintain fidelity to the Spanish empire, it was finally decided to set up a Board for the Protection of the Rights of Fernando Seventh; a triumph of the conservatives that would not daunt the independence force that a year later, on July 5, 1811, declared the Independence of Venezuela.
Today, 214 years after this first cry for freedom of the glorious Venezuelan people, the patriots of this land are still firm in the fight for their full freedom and independence, fighting old and new empires that will fall to the fierceness of those who yesterday and today say “No” to submission and domination.
