The Argentine neoliberal government made official a budget reduction of more than 2.7 million dollars that directly affects 46 protected natural areas, including emblematic parks such as Nahuel Huapi, Los Glaciares and Iguazú.
This measure carried out by the administration of Javier Milei raises concern in various sectors because of the immediate impact on environmental preservation and the operation of protected ecosystems.
A 65.9% of the financial adjustment, equivalent to 1.7 million dollars, has a direct impact on the essential operating costs for the operation of these areas. This reduction in resources limits the availability of fuel, the maintenance of basic infrastructure and the maintenance of the salaries of park rangers, personnel essential for surveillance and territorial control.
The reduction in funding weakens the National Park Administration's capacity to respond to critical contingencies, especially to the risk of forest fires and other environmental emergencies that require rapid and equipped intervention. The situation alerts local authorities and conservation organizations, who warn of the vulnerability in which the country's strategic natural resources remain.
Experts and unions in the sector point out that this cut not only affects daily management, but also jeopardizes the long-term sustainability of the protected area system. The lack of operating budget threatens to reduce the presence of personnel in parks, complicating monitoring and protection tasks against the daily threats faced by these natural areas of great ecological value.
