The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in defense of sovereignty and national integrity, has initiated legal action against citizen Leopoldo López for his continuous requests for aggression against the country and he requested the withdrawal of his Venezuelan nationality.

The Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, reported through her Telegram channel, that President Nicolás Maduro filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to request the withdrawal of Leopoldo López's Venezuelan nationality.

This action is based on Article 130 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (CRBV), which establishes the duty of Venezuelans to defend the Homeland and its sovereignty, as well as on the Simon Bolivar Liberation Organic Law.

Rodríguez explained that the legal action is justified by López's record, which includes: “a grotesque, criminal and illegal call for a military invasion of Venezuela, the permanent promotion of the economic blockade against the Venezuelan people and the call to mass murder Venezuelans in complicity with foreign governments and enemies.”

As an immediate consequence of the judicial remedy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic and the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Aliens (SAIME), in accordance with the relevant procedures, will immediately proceed to cancel Leopoldo López's passport.

The Executive Vice President emphasized that the Venezuelan State has sufficient resources to guarantee the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic against foreign powers and those who act to undermine national independence.

Recently, in an interview with EFE in Madrid, López said he agreed with a possible attack by the United States on Venezuela. “I think it's right that not only does this pressure be done at sea, as has already happened with several vessels, but that this can advance objectives within the national territory,” he said.
