The writer honored at the 20th Venezuelan International Book Fair (FILVEN) Monagas, Luis Peñalver, presented the book “Cause and Death of Colonel Leonardo Infante”, published by The Dog and the Frog, at the Eastern Lottery Center, in Maturín.

In this regard, according to information from Venezolana de Televisión, Peñalver emphasized that the book is dedicated to Leonardo Infante, known as the Black Infante, born in Chaguaramal, province of Maturín, and who would become one of the best officers of the patriotic cavalry during the independence campaign.

“It is part of a historic support and seeks to demonstrate the willpower for the homeland, freedom and emancipation that characterized this character,” he said and noted that, despite being a prominent hero of Venezuela's independence, his legacy was tarnished by unfounded accusations and a questionable judicial process.

“An in-depth analysis of the life and death of Colonel Leonardo Infante, which highlights the controversy surrounding his conviction and execution,” he said.

He also said that this work not only contributes to learning more about Infante, but also “encourages research on what has been called the effect of Africania on the Monagas state, thus opening up new opportunities for study” and that in the current context of digital avalanche, “reading and writing continue to be a historical need, more relevant than ever”.
