The Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, emphasized that the canonization of Venezuela's first lay saint, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, “is a process, because José Gregorio has been the saint of the poor for years.”
This was highlighted in his Con El Mazo Dando program, broadcast number 544, when he showed a second-degree relic print of José Gregorio Hernández, which was sent to him as a gift by Mrs. Carmen Rodríguez de Mendoza, 93, the mother of Rear Admiral José Gregorio Mendoza Rodríguez.
“I thank him, I thank him for the gesture and the affection, well,” he said.
In that sense, he stressed that “this is the love of the people”, since the lady “broke away because it is a relic and sent it to me”.
Cabello commented that his mother was a faithful believer in José Gregorio Hernández and stressed that almost every Venezuelan family has a member called José Gregorio, as was the case of his brother, as a sign of devotion to the Saint of the poor.
