During the ceremony commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the Civic-Military Rebellion, from the Mountain Barracks, the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, stated that on February 4, 1992, they rose up against imperialism.

“We rose up against those who ruled here, that is, we rose up against imperialism, because in the end it was imperialism who ruled,” said Cabello Rondón.

He also asserted that all of Venezuela's natural resources were given to the empire, the country was mortgaged, and was on the way to privatize everything, health, education and life.

The also Minister of People's Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, recalled that before that February 4th, it occurred on February 27 and 28, where our National Armed Forces played a sad role, it was used by the old politics to massacre our people.

“When they reached the 3,600 dead, they stopped counting, it was a massacre on February 27 and 28, 1989. That's why when we left on February 4, 1992, it was almost suicide; the People saw, checked, but didn't lift a finger to openly support the rebellion, because that people came from having been massacred and the memory was fresh,” he said.

Cabello asserted that the people were afraid but “everything changed when that boy (Hugo Chávez) appeared and gave him back confidence, he told him what he wanted to hear.”
