The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, urged the country's mayoral candidates to assume with responsibility the commitment to govern with the people, stressing that the real work of a mayor should not be limited to management from an office, but to direct action with communities.
During the press conference of the National Directorate of the PSUV, Cabello emphasized that those who have received the support to be candidates have an “enormous, high responsibility, an ethical commitment” to their people.
He also stressed that the work of future mayors must align with the principles of the Homeland Plan and the policies of the Great Patriotic Pole, ensuring that power remains in the hands of the People and not of elite groups.
“We are not going to wait four years to correct the course. Whoever strays from the path set by the People will have to be held to account,” warned Cabello, who recalled that being mayor in these times is not a privilege, but a responsibility of service.
In this sense, he differentiated the revolutionary vision of participatory democracy from the right during the Fourth Republic, stating that the objective is not to bring power closer to the People, but to hand it over to them.
He also highlighted the importance of working together with communal circuits, a mandate from Commander Hugo Chávez in the “Coup de Timón”.
He urged candidates to stay focused on their work, without being distracted by debates about the opposition. “Our job is to fulfill the People's mandate and do what we have to do to consolidate the Revolution,” he concluded.
