The
first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela
(PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, during his speech at the
World Congress Against Fascism, Neofascism and Similar Expressions, held in La Carlota,
Caracas between September 10 and 11,
stressed that with the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez, “the People appeared” and “hatreds were unleashed”.
Cabello
recalled that, before the arrival of Commander Chávez, the
People were excluded from exercising their right to vote for lack of an identity card or for not knowing how to read or write, “they had no right to
choose and it was the way they invented to perpetuate themselves in power, but Chávez came to
them and with Chávez the People appeared.”
In
that sense, he assured that with the triumph of the Commander and his desire to
give power to the People, hatred broke out, because it was inconceivable that “a
young man from a town, beyond the state of Barinas; not belonging to the elites,
without commitment to any financial group or political groups, came to the Presidency
of the Republic (...) Because a foot in the ground as they call us,
an outcast as they call us, came to the Presidency of the
Republic”.
On the
other hand, the leader of the red awning pointed out that it was thanks to the violent actions
demonstrated by the opposition that the Bolivarian
Revolution defined its socialist character.
“We were
like a kind of limbo, but they helped us when they staged a
coup against Commander Chávez on April 11, 2002 and the people
began to see the fangs of fascism in their grip; they ruled 47 hours; they
persecuted, assassinated, abolished this Constitution by carrying out a coup d'etat of freedom.”
