On November 8, 2006, Commander Hugo Chávez, from the Miraflores Palace, warned that the full weight of the law will fall on those who attempt to destabilize the country during the presidential elections of December of that year.
“We don't want an act of violence at all, but if this opposition, or these opposition leaders, come to try to manipulate the supporters of the opposition, and to take to the streets, and to block streets and shoot and burn, I don't know how many things, well, we would be obliged to bring order, and I hope that the leaders of that opposition, if they come to that madness, I hope that they will assume their responsibility,” he said.
Commander Hugo Chávez recalled the events that occurred during the march to Miraflores, when armed groups shot at demonstrators of different political tendencies, with the objective of attributing the deaths to the Government. He pointed out that these plans were neutralized and reiterated that it is the duty of revolutionaries to prevent their repetition.
