This Monday, at a press conference, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Guo Jiakun, reported that his country decided to sanction American congressmen, officials and heads of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) who “have behaved badly” in issues related to Hong Kong.

Jiakun said that the decision is in accordance with the provisions of the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Act of the People's Republic of China.

On March 31, the US State Department sanctioned six Chinese officials for allegedly “undermining Hong Kong's autonomy”.

Guo noted that the US “abused illegal unilateral sanctions against six officials of Chinese central government institutions in Hong Kong and the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, seriously interfering” in the affairs of this Chinese region.

China strongly condemns this despicable act,” the spokesman stressed and warned the United States that Hong Kong “is China's Hong Kong and that the United States cannot interfere in its affairs.”
