The National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL), in exercise of its powers and in strict compliance with the Venezuelan legal framework, issued an alert to warn users about the serious risks associated with downloading and using uncertified applications that offer access to multimedia content, such as MagisTV and Flux Tv.
The information was provided by CONATEL on its website, which states that these platforms can facilitate unauthorized access to cameras and microphones, the theft of bank information and personal data, and the violation of family and personal privacy.
Faced with these risks, CONATEL recommends that citizens: Do not share WiFi network keys with unknown people; Verify any suspicious message by phone call and Avoid downloading uncertified applications.
The institution also reaffirms its commitment to the protection of digital rights and the security of citizens, especially children and adolescents, who are more vulnerable to this type of threat.
Below is the full text of the statement:
Dear user:
Considering that the Organic Telecommunications Act provides in paragraph 2 of article 12, the rights of users to the privacy and inviolability of their telecommunications.
Considering that the Organic Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents, in its article 65, enshrines the right to honor, reputation, self-image, private life and family privacy for children and adolescents.
Considering that the Special Law against Computer Crimes defines in its articles 20, 21 and 22 that they threaten the privacy of individuals and telecommunications, taking into account circumstances, possession and use of personal data without consent.
The Venezuelan State, in a coordinated effort with internet service providers and other telecommunications attributes, is calling for alert to the download of applications such as MagisTV and Flux TV, which allow access to content on the Internet, since there is a high possibility of simultaneously downloading malicious programs that allow direct access to devices in your home such as cameras, microphones, photo galleries, bank codes and personal data. This shared information could be used to cause serious economic, moral and even physical harm, by violating your identity and that of your family.
In this regard, we urge:
• Don't share your WiFi username and keys with people you don't trust
• Keep an eye out for suspicious messages that request sensitive information. Always check with a call to keep in mind that a photograph or audio message may be falsified.
